Με μεγάλη επιτυχία και πολλές εκπλήξεις πραγματοποιήθηκε η 91η τελετή απονομής των βραβείων Όσκαρ στο Dolby Theatre του Λος Άντζελες με το βραβείο της Καλύτερης Ταινίας να πηγαίνει στο «Green Book» του Peter Farelly.

Το Όσκαρ Σκηνοθεσίας απέσπασε ο Μεξικανό Alfonso Cuarón για το «Roma», επιβεβαιώνοντας τα προγνωστικά που τον ήθελαν φαβορί.

Ήταν το ένα από τα 3 συνολικά βραβεία που κέρδισε η ταινία του Μεξικανού δημιουργού, ο οποίος παρέλαβε επίσης τα Όσκαρ Φωτογραφίας και Ξενόγλωσσης Ταινίας.

Από τις 10 συνολικά υποψηφιότητες, η ταινία «The Favourite» του Γιώργου Λάνθιμου απέσπασε το Όσκαρ Α’ Γυναικείου Ρόλου για την εξαιρετική ερμηνεία της Olivia Colman, η οποία κατάφερε να νικήσει το φαβορί Glenn Close.
